I am a Naked Woman Professor Ramos Blog

I am a Naked Woman When I was about five years old I played my first video game, it was called Quake 2. This game was played on the PC and I sucked. I kept playing my little heart out as often as I could. I would play for hours in hope that one day I could beat the game, this determination led me to the life long hobby of playing video games. This hobby taught me that no matter how many times you fail, keep trying and never give up. Every mistake is an opportunity to learn. When I was young I remember watching my dad and older brother Dustin play video games on the computer all the time. The two most memorable games they played were named Quake 2 and Diablo. They were two totally different games in terms of objects, but both intrigued me. Quake 2 was what my dad called a â€Å"shoot em’ up game† and Diablo was a RPG game where you battled the forces of evil, eventually fighting the devil himself. I would always bug them to play, but to no avail. They would simply say â€Å"No, you are to young. You wouldn’t even understand how to play† Fortunately I knew how to get my way. I simply went to the one who wore the pants in the family, my mother. I would just have to say, â€Å"Mom!! I want to play, and they won’t let me!† My mom would go to yell at them and tell them I should be allowed to play to. After about a million times of snitching out my dad and brother. I was finally allowed to play. I sat my little butt do wn and instantly lost. Dustin was usually there watching me, and as soon as I lost he would say â€Å"See!!! You can’t even play† I tried harder and harder until I was eventually able to play the game without dying every 5 seconds. My favorite game to play at the time was called Quake 2, it is a First-Person Shooter game and the objective is to complete the level and beat the occasional boss (surprising right?) I quickly discovered that I could change the way my character looked. I decided to do what any normal six-year-old boy would do, I played as the naked woman! A few days later my dad sat down to play some quake and shortly after I heard â€Å"What the Fuck, Daniel were you playing as the naked lady!† I unfortunately was no longer allowed to play my favorite video game. By the time I could play video games again, I had a few new choices of games. We even had a new system. It was called the Super Nintendo. The Super Nintendo seemed like it was a god send, playing video games was no longer limited to only one person at a time! This console had two controllers which allowed me and my brother Dustin to play together. Instead of him always teasing me he helped me get better at video games, probably because it benefitted him. There were three games we frequently played. The first two were called Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario Brothers. Those games were two player games, or at least we would take turns and work together. The third game we played often was called Mortal Combat, this game was not a team game and it was two players. This was a fighting game where the two players would have to fight against each other. My brother and I loved to play Mortal Combat. Yeah, you guessed it, most of the time he would win. Those few times I managed to beat my brother felt magical, but every loss I learned from. After sinking many hours of my young life into this I got good at it, I was able to play on single player and beat the entire game with no assistance. Dustin wasn’t even able to beat the game. I started to really like playing against him, because the tables were now turned in my favor. I was finally able to win most of the games we played. I was now the one saying â€Å"HA! You suck I win.† I got to be the one doing the finishing moves in Mortal Kombat. These were special moves you can do when you won the round. My two favorite moves were to violently rip off the head of the opposing character or to kick them into a spike pit below a bridge we fought on. I was able to get that sweet moment of taunting Dustin, rubbing it in his face that I was victorious. It felt great to be able to tease my brother who is five years older than me. This is when I learned I was able to get pretty good at video games. As I got older we acquired more systems and a very large variety of video games. I made it my personal goal to beat every video game I could, no matter the type or how difficult they are. By having this goal, I excelled at playing video games. Soon enough my gaming skills were leagues ahead of my brother and dad. My skill had grown so great I was basically able to play any video game with ease and had the ability to beat many on hard difficulties. When I was 11 years old, my dad bought me a computer. This was a huge game changer for me, because when I was younger most of my video game experience was on consoles. Consoles used controllers and the computer uses a mouse and keyboard. The play style was drastically different and suddenly, I was like a vacuum and sucked. When I first got my computer my brother Dustin already had a computer and a few games. He had the newer games in the series I used to watch him play as a child. Some of these games were Quake 3: Arena, Diablo 2 and even a new game called Starcraft. I watched him play a few times, but I never asked to play them. I decided to ask my brother if I could play his games. He loaned me two games, Diablo 2 and Starcraft. Diablo 2 was a revamped version of the Diablo game I used to watch him play and Starcraft was a strategy-based game. I instantly fell in love with these two games. I sunk most of my play time into Starcraft. Starcraft was an extremely hard game if you wanted to be good at it and you could play against other people online. You could play with just the mouse, but you don’t really play all that well. If you wanted to be truly great at a strategy game on the PC, you need to learn how to use the keyboard very well. These types of game are full of â€Å"hotkeys† which are keys on the keyboard that make something happen in game, its much faster then clicking. Starcraft has about 30 different â€Å"hotkeys† that were part of the game by default. It sounds easy to learn the â€Å"hotkeys† but it’s not like you just press a key and you’re done. To use them to their max potential you had to have precision timing, it’s almost like a repeated cycle of the correct pattern. After a lot of perseverance, I was skilled at using the keyboard and mouse simultaneously while still making split second decisions. I was like a well-oiled machine, constantly making precision movements. To this day I still play video games and I still think about all those experiences I had as a child from being a naked woman to online gaming. Every so often I still play some of the old school games, I love the nostalgia from it. I would be a different person than who I am today if it wasn’t for video games. They influenced my decision to get my bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, because I love the way they enthrall the user. Video games give the player an endless challenge, constantly teaching them how to be better. It is extremely interesting to see how a game goes from the drawing board to a fully immersive experience.   I plan to develop video games when I am out of college. I want to work for Blizzard Entertainment, my favorite game studio. None of this would have happened if it wasn’t for my love of video games and the valuable lessons they thought me. I learned patience and perseverance from all those times I lost and had to wait for loading screens or repeated the same level, until finally winning. I also learned that no matter how impossible the level or objective seemed. You always need to keep trying, learn from your mistakes and never ever give up.

Because Of and Due To

Because Of and Due To Because Of and Due To Because Of and Due To By Guest Author The saying too many cooks spoil the broth is spot on in the case of English language. Today, even native speakers make blunders in written and spoken English, being influenced by current trends. One such trend we are talking about is the misuse of due to and because of. Many are of the opinion that both of the pairs refer to the same thing, and that they can be used as synonyms. This is an absolute misconception. They cannot be used interchangeably because they do not belong to the same classification. When the classification is not the same, how can the usage be? Some native English speakers also claim that a sentence cannot be started with the pair because of. However, they are unable to demonstrate the reasons. In some cases, the sentence cannot be started with because of whereas in some cases it can. This is the sole purpose of this post. We will be discussing the legitimate reasons, usage and rules associated with both the word pairs. The Classification of The Word Groups In order to get a clear understanding of how to use both the word groups it is imperative to first know their classifications. Due to is an adjective, which means it can only modify pronouns and nouns according to the purest English grammar rules. Because of is an adverb, which means it can only modify verbs, adjectives and clauses, but not nouns and pronouns. The Explanation It is quite difficult to grasp the concept outrightly with just categorizing the two word groups. So, it is important to lay down a little explanation along with some examples for you to get a clearer idea. Here are some examples of the usage of both the word groups: His frustration was due to the mucked up windscreen. He was frustrated due to the mucked up windscreen. In general, both of the sentences may sound right to you, but they are not. Carefully look at the first sentence and apply the grammar rule of noun modification. The word his is a possessive noun and it is complementing the noun frustration, and was is there as a linking verb. Now, due to the mucked up windscreen itself is an adjectival prepositional phrase which is the complement or the reason being attached to the noun with the help of the linking verb was. Therefore, in this case the usage of due to is absolutely right because it is fulfilling the purpose of modifying the noun. Now, take a look at the second and apply the same rule there. The pair due to is not connecting nor complementing the noun because the possessive noun his has been changed to he, which is a pronoun. This way, he is not the possessive noun now has become the main subject of the sentence and a pronoun. The pair due to has nothing to modify here because the verb is now was frustrated and adjectives cannot modify verbs. Henceforth, to connect a reason or a compliment to this sentence the adverb because of should be attached with the reason to make it appropriate. The correct sentence would be: He was frustrated because of the mucked up windscreen. As you can see, the pair because of is now modifying the verb was frustrated, so this sentence is correct now. Use This Trick When in Doubt One trick you can use is to substitute due to with caused by. If the substitution does not work, then you probably shouldnt use due to there. For example: My low grade was due to lack of study. My low grade was caused by lack of study. The substitution works, so due to is being used correctly. Here is another example: I missed the class due to the rain. I missed the class caused by the rain. The substitution doesnt work here, so due to shouldnt be used there. The correct sentence would be: I missed the class because of the rain. Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Get a subscription and start receiving our writing tips and exercises daily! Elder Abuse (CASE) - Essay Example Elder abuse is a serious health as well as social problem and a major cause of death and injuries. According to NCEA statistics, those experiencing abuse have a 300% higher risk of death. The aim of this paper is to discuss the characteristics of abusers and victims, the types of abuse and how one at risk can seek help by looking at the case of Ms. Sanders. Ms. Sanders is 72 years old and with a declining health status hence at risk of elder abuse. Although her son Simon has taken over the responsibility of taking care of her, this does not prevent the abuse as research shows that most abuse is perpetrated by family members and to make matters worse, he abuses prescription medications. There are various types of elder abuse according to APA (2014) and (NCEA 2014) : physical; verbal, emotional or psychological; sexual; financial or exploitation and neglect. Physical abuse occurs through hitting, kicking, shoving, physical restraints and other methods that cause injury to the victim. Warning signs include: bruises, burns, broken bones, and repeated unexplained injury. Verbal, emotional or psychological abuse involves name calling, threats, intimidation, and disrespectful comments that cause fear or emotional distress to the victim. Warning signs of this abuse include: unusual depression, uncommunicative, unreasonably suspicious or unexpl ained changes in behaviour. Sexual abuse involves inappropriate tuouching, sexual contact or rape and can be recognized if the victim has bruises on breasts or genital areas or unexplained vaginal bleeding. Financial abuse is in the form of fraud, forgery, identity theft, home improvement scams and predatory lending (California Department of Justice, 2014). For such elders, their life circumstances do not match their financial assets, there are unusual bank activities like ATM withdrawals. Neglect may not be intentional

Three-Phase Induction Motors Essay Example for Free

Three-Phase Induction Motors Essay Three-phase induction machines account for the great majority of applications that call for motors with power ratings over 5 hp. They are used to power pumps, fans, compressors, and grinders, and in other industrial applications. Rotating Stator Field. The stator of a three-phase induction machine contains a set of windings to which three-phase electrical power is applied. The stator field can be visualized as a set of north and south poles rotating around the circumference of the stator. (North stator poles are where magnetic flux lines leave the stator, and south stator poles are where magnetic flux lines enter the stator. Because north and south poles occur in pairs, the total number of poles P is always even. The direction of rotation of the field in a three-phase induction machine can be reversed by interchanging any two of the line connections to the electrical source. We will see that this reverses the direction of mechanical rotation. You may find the fact that interchanging two of the electrical connections to the source reverses the direction of rotation to be useful in working with three-phase motors. Squirrel-Cage Induction Machines. The rotor windings of a three-phase induction machine can take two forms. The simplest, least expensive, and most rugged is known as a squirrel-cage rotor. It consists simply of bars of aluminum with shorting rings at the ends. The squirrel cage is embedded in the laminated iron rotor by casting molten aluminum into slots cut into the rotor. In the squirrel-cage induction machine, there are no external electrical connections to the rotor. The other type of rotor construction is known as a wound rotor. Torque is produced in an induction motor assuming purely resistive impedances for the rotor conductors. However, the impedances of the conductors are not purely resistive. Because the conductors are embedded in iron, there is significant series inductance associated with each conductor. The rotor slows down from synchronous speed, the stator field moves past the rotor conductors. The magnitudes of the voltages induced in the rotor conductors increase linearly with slip. For small slips, the inductive reactance of the conductors is negligible, and maximum rotor current is aligned with maximum stator field, which is the optimum situation for producing torque. Thus, the torque tends to level out as the motor slows. Because the poles on the rotor tend to become aligned with the stator poles, the torque decreases as the motor slows to a stop. The torque for zero speed is called either the starting torque or the stall torque. The maximum torque is called either the pull-out torque or the breakover torque. The motor designer can modify the shape of the torque speed characteristic by variations in the dimensions and geometry of the motor and by materials selection.

Hemingways Hills Like White Elephants :: Hills Like White Elephants Essays

In the story 'hills like white elephants' by Ernest Hemingway, we read about two characters, a girl and an American man. They have short conversations between them, and these conversations can hint of many clues about them and their relationship. In the story, we discover what the characters are like, through what they say, and also through the things they don't say. First, in the story, we understand that the American man has money, and he is an adult because he seems to knows what he is doing. He doesn't want to have a child. Therefore, he is asking his girlfriend to risk her life by having an abortion. The surgery's death rate was higher than its survival rate at that time. All this makes him very selfish, as well. He doesn't care about her, despite the fact that he says: 'well, I care about you.' (Hemingway, 255). He doesn?t even listen to her. She speaks to him, and he says some unrelated things back. We can assume that he always talks about drinking because he wants to get her drunk so she will accept the abortion. Also, we can understand from his comment: ?I?ve known lots of people that have done it?, (Hemingway, 255) that he had too many relationships with teenage girls before, and he has been through the same situation nemrus times. Secondly, the woman, who is called the girl in the story, has no identity. We don?t know where she is from, or if she has a family. We can understand that she is a teenager who depends on a careless man. Furthermore, it?s clear from her words: ?and if I do it you?ll be happy and things will be like they were and you?ll love me (Hemingway, 255), that she is a lonely desperate girl who still hopes for happiness. Nevertheless, she knows she will never have it. That?s why it?s obvious from her reply, ?I don?t care about me?, (Hemingway, 255), that she is depressed, and even ready to die by agreeing to the abortion.

Peer Response: An Almost Pure Empty Walking Essay

Selected Poems: â€Å"Immigrant†, â€Å"Almond Tree†, â€Å"Watering†, â€Å"I Will Sweep†, and â€Å"My Mothers Room† In Tryfon Tolides poems he alternates his life experiences in his homeland and in the United States. The author does this by choosing careful words to describe his experiences in such a way that allows the readers to imagine the image he is trying to display. The author conveys the new world versus the old world as he explains his life in Greece and in the United States. He tells stories of his mother’s pain as an immigrant and his joy of living in the ordinary world. The author also introduces us to his mother’s disease of cancer and he describes it as if he was reliving that moment in his life again. The author writes with honesty and humanity, he relates his poems to the every day person and the every day life of an American or a Greek. We all experience sorrow, pain, happiness, joy, and loss. Any one can relate to one or more of this authors poem. Any reader can enjoy his remembrance of his delivery days as a pizza delivery boy, or his mother’s pain of both being an immigrant and a cancer patient, or even the every day ordinary things the author chooses to write about. The immigrant touches the issues of his mother’s grief of moving to America, she states that America has brought her nothing but poison and illness. From this we can tell that the author’s mother blames America for disease and believes if she did not come to America then she would not have become sick. In part we can also conclude that her life in America is not as easy as she thought it would be. People always talked about the wonderful life of an American but from this poem we can tell that the author’s mother has had a hard life in America and misses her life in Greece. In an almond tree we can conclude that the author also misses his life in Greece, the author conveys this by explaining his memories of smashing almonds. The author continues by stating all of the things he misses from when he was in Greece, such as the spring water, the black skies, and the outhouse. He is also conveying that even though his life was harder in Greece he remembers his memories in joy. The author doesn’t remember his life as being difficult he remember it as being wonderful because that is what he was used to. These two poems meant the most to me because both the author and his mother remember Greece as being their joyous home and in some ways wish they have never left it.

How would you direct act one scene one of A Midsummer Night’s Dream? Essay

Act one scene one of â€Å"A Midsummer Night’s Dream† opens by portraying to us the situation between the four lovers. Shakespeare creates the subtle impression that they are perplexed group of people with no balance between them. This provides both comedy and tension throughout the play. The basic complexities between the parties are laid out during this opening scene. A major influence to the direction of this scene is the audience’s perception of the different relationships. Shakespeare more than likely intended this scene to cause confusion as to who loves who, which in turn invites the audience formulate their own ideas. Naturally, the audience will want the four to form two couples instead of one confusing mess. To effectively portray this onstage, the four lovers should be proximate to the one that they love. This will cause a visual divide between the characters because not all of the lovers are happy with those who are in love with them. For example, if Demetrius went about following Hermia, she would continually walk away from him because she does not love him. To further emphasise the divide between the lovers that forms the basis of the first scene, I would direct Hermia’s father Egeus to be very angry with Lysander. He would show this through body language such as thrusting his fists into the air, and tone of voice, which would be loud and harsh. This creates a tense atmosphere onstage and furthermore reinforces the confusion and disapproving dispositions of the characters onstage. The opening section of the first scene gives us the impression that there is confusion between who loves who, and this is obvious to the audience. Shakespeare also tells us that Demetrius once loved Helena, and this hints to the audience that it may happen again – thus solving the ever tangled â€Å"love quartet†. To show this to the audience, when Demetrius talks to Helena, they would often come close as if the rapport between them is very strong, then back away. The general body language of the two would show that there is still a chance of a reunion. By the time that Helena tells Demetrius of Lysander and Hermia’s planned elopement, the audience are aware that if Demetrius did happen to fall in love with Helena again, all would be well. This makes the audience want them to get back together. In order to bring out the comedy in this scene, I would direct the lovers to be very serious: overly deep and preoccupied with their own feelings. The inflated characters taking the ludicrous situation seriously would be comical. The fact that they are selfish and are only concerned with their own feelings in this scene also adds to the comic value. They are funny, however, singularly – they don’t involve relationships with any other character in order to be comical. Act one scene one is used to present the four lovers to us and describe their situation. Each of the four is presented in a different way, and depending on their direction is how the audience would perceive them. Shakespeare presents Helena as completely hung up about her looks. In order to show this, I would have Helena with too much make up on, possibly carrying a mirror and checking herself all the time. Her stage presence would show her as very flamboyant and very melodramatic in her movement, over exaggerating gestures in order to show her self-assured ‘importance’. We know that she is anxious about her looks because of her nervous reaction when Lysander calls her â€Å"fair†. Later on in the scene, Hermia becomes self-conscious about her height. It is her reaction to this that is comical. Firstly, she takes the jests very seriously. I would direct her to show this through facial expression, relaying to the audience her devastation. Secondly, she reacts by mocking Helena – â€Å"Thou painted maypole†. These lines are intrinsically humorous, so using obvious angry facial expressions and perhaps grabbing each other as if to fight would bring out the comic value of the segment. Demetrius is willing to see Hermia executed to prevent her from marrying another man, and Lysander appears to think of himself as a hero in a love story: he is egotistical and pretentious. It is ironic that eh thinks of himself as heroic because he is in fact, the opposite. In order to show Lysander’s naivety and contrast to Demetrius, I would direct him to appear less intelligent than the others. My dramatic intentions in this scene would be to present to the audience the confusion between the four lovers onstage in act one scene one. The main method I would use to do this would be to ensure a contrast between those that do not love each other, which would be shown through negative body language and stage positioning that portrays they do not want to be near each other.

global warming3 essays

global warming3 essays Global warming is the most urgent environmental problem the world is facing. Few, if any, trends are more important to our future than climate change caused by human activities. This change is not beneficial. This warming trend occurring because of the buildup of greenhouse gases primarily carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide- which is a direct result of humans and the Industrial Revolution (EPA, 2000). These gasses are emitted profusely into the atmosphere by factories, cars, and many other devices. As the suns rays hit the Earths surface and bounce off, the gasses trap the heat. This creates the rise in temperature. These warming temperatures have many negative effects on Earth, which also affect us. I believe there are three main categories in which these raising temperatures have an effect: glacial melting and water levels, plant life, and human and animal health. As the temperatures are rising, glaciers are melting. One of its main consequences is the rise in sea level. As the sea level rises, a few things are happening and in the next twenty-five to fifty years, the sea level is expected to rise a full foot. For starters, the coastlines of countries all over the world are slowly being covered and eroded away (Newmann, 2000). Coastal cities are being flooded and people are being forced to move inland. When flooding occurs, there is the chance of fresh water contamination. Changes in the sea level also cause changes in the precipitation patterns. All of these changes have effects on many things humans need and use. Drinking water, navigation, and hydroelectric power are just a few (EPA, 2000). While is seems that flooding might be the only problem, these changes are also responsible for droughts. The explanation for these two tribulations is simple. Increased temperature means increased evaporation. Heavy evaporation takes the moisture o ut of the soil creating a drought. However, when ...

Exercise in Identifying Effective Thesis Statements

Exercise in Identifying Effective Thesis Statements This exercise will help you understand the difference between an effective and ineffective thesis statement, ie a sentence that identifies the main idea and central purpose of an essay. Instructions For each pair of sentences below, select the one that you think would make the more effective thesis in the introductory paragraph of a short essay (approximately 400 to 600 words). Keep in mind that an effective thesis statement should be sharply focused and specific, not just a general statement of fact. When youre done, you may want to discuss your answers with your classmates, and then compare your responses with the suggested answers on page two. Be ready to defend your choices. Because these thesis statements appear outside the context of complete essays, all responses are judgment calls, not absolute certainties. Project Procurement1 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Project Procurement1 - Essay Example In reality it is not as simple as it seems because the choice can rotate from small matters such as if a company makes turbine generators they might have to consider either to set up ball bearing manufacturing machine with in their business premises or should they simply purchase it from outside or for instance a car manufacturing company might consider making a engine or purchasing it from outside resources. The buy or make decision does not only pertain in manufacturing companies but it is also found excessively in outsourcing companies for instance a data processing company will think if they should hire data entry employees or give them out to specialized service providers (Probert, 1997).
